Corruption is nothing new to the Philadelphia Mayor's Office. There is an ongoing investigation into the inappropriate use of funds and non-bidding award of contracts by Mayor John Street to people like his brother. There was a big scandal around election time that the FBI might have bugged his office. Well now it turns out that the mayor's top aide instructed the Police commissioner to lie about the circumstances surrounding the incident. There is a long running history of pay to play in Philadelphia, most significantly with Street. While, Street has yet to be indicted or charged with wrongdoing, I would not be surprised if it happens soon with people like his former finance director testifying against him.
