Wharton seems to be slowly moving toward a grade disclosure policy. Right now, students may not disclose their grades to recruiters. However, students may disclose if they are on Director's List--which I think is lame. Wharton should either have grade non-disclosure or not. I think the lack of grade disclosure definitely affects the motivation level of students. Disclosure would only seem to affect 1st year effort though, since students usually find jobs during the first semester of their 2nd year. I can't imagine disclosure would affect student effort if they already have a job.

I worked really hard in school my first semester but missed Director's List. I was pretty upset, but didn't just quit. I think 90% of the students work hard in school regardless of grade disclosure. However, I'm sure students would work harder if there was grade disclosure.

HBS and Chicago GSB seem to be having the same discussion. With the value of an MBA under increasing scrutiny, I think the measures are likely to gain momentum.
