Howard Stern signed a $500 million 5-year contract with Sirius satellite radio. I'm not sure how Sirius is going to pay for it since they only had $13 million in revenue last year. If you like Howard Stern (whom I don't), they only way you'll be able to listen to him is with Sirius radio. Sirius is putting a lot of faith in Stern. If he doesn't bring in a lot of listeners, the whole company is likely to go under.
Sirius has always been 2nd best in the satellite radio business, after XM radio. They cost more per month and have lower quality audio due to their increased signal compression. Plus XM signed deals early with GM and other auto manufactureres to get their satellite radios into new cars--which is probably the biggest barrier to entry.
I have never had a need for satelite radio since I have always had a short commute to work. I would consider it if I could use the same subscription in the car and in my house. I'm guessing satellite radio will become more common in home receivers. Tivo for your radio is likely to follow...
