The Wharton Sprorts Business Initiative was featured this week in Fortune magazine. If you haven't noticed, sports franchises have become big business with ever increasing broadcasting fees, advertising, and ticket prices. The sports industry generates $375 billion annually. But historically, a lot of these organizations are run "by the seat of their pants." Only recently have sports organizations begun using data-driven financial solutions to maximize profitability. WSBI was designed to create a partnership among sports business leaders, Wharton faculty, and students to generate and disseminate knowledge about the sports industry. The sports industry is a very difficult sector to break into. It helps if you were a college athlete and have some friends playing pro ball. I may have had some luck already. Also, my guess for the NCAA playoffs is Louisville v UNC.
