I'm driving up to Philadelphia tomorrow for Wharton Welcome Weekend. I'm excited to meet some of the people I'll be going to school with. I'd like to meet some of the people who have been writing the MBA blogs as well.
Shawn is anxious to find a place to live. She wants me to check out brownstone townhouses in the Rittenhouse Square and Art Museum districts. Everything is MUCH more expensive than I imagined. $2000-$3000 per month seem like Manhattan prices to me. We had planned on keeping one of our cars, but now I'm considering selling them both. Philadelphia has the 2nd highest insurance rates in the nation, around $3000 per year. Add that to the $250 per month for parking. Makes the subway look mighty nice. Plus I'm not sure how much driving around town we'll be doing anyway.
I'm planning on moving up to Philly in mid-July. That will give us plenty of time to get situated and decorate the apartment before school starts. The house is about ready to be put on the market. Thank goodness for the skyrocking real estate bubble in Larchmont. I would like to thank the future owner of my house in advance for financing my MBA education. :)
